Prom Market and the 2010 Emmy’s went hand in hand to showcase the latest in the formal fashion industry. What caught me was the fact that styles such as what Lea Michele was wearing on the red carpet and receiving great praise on for being a fabulous dress is the same styles that the top prom designers were showcasing for the 2011 Prom season. So with everyone on the same page look for trendy dresses that could be worn for your own red carpet event coming to a store near you within the next few weeks!

There is a lot going on in fashion this weekend if you are in the prom or formal wear industry. Buyers from all over the United States are in Atlanta at AmericasMart where designers are showcasing their spring 2011 styles.
The International Prom Association is there posting a bunch of behind the scenes videos, and interviews with staff and models at market. These are the absolute first images of 2011 prom dresses!! Hopefully the pictures will be posted soon! Check out the video on the IPA YouTube Channel.

Drew Barrymore at Premiere
Although Drew Barrymore is not always on the fashion A-list of celebrities, she definitely can pick some winning combinations when needed. This time “Going the Distance” premiere the gold Catherine Malandrino gown looked stunning. A hot trend for the upcoming season is the metallic gold and this dress showed that color perfect. The fresh look was perfect for an elegant but carefree style that worked so well. So if you go gold for that evening gown try the tone down natural look that works so well with metal hues.

Sherri Hill has done it again! Last year it was the all over mirror look dress of style 2226. This year the contestant of the 2010 Miss Universe pageant wore two versions of the head turning, body hugging Lycra band dress that has been immensely popular over the past season. These two new versions of the “band dress” have been given glitz with the adding of bead work on the edge or over the bust line of the short cocktail dresses. Sherri Hill style 2329 in black is favorite of ours and hope it will be yours also.

Once again we have one dress on two individuals, however the point is in a trend direction this time. The “Bandage dress” that prom and social occasion goers wore from last season is still a fashion trend for this season. The high end fashion house dress shown here is only a taste of what to look for from the major prom designers. For Prom 2011 look for variations of the “bandage dress” with bead work, multi colors, and solid from Evenings by Allure, Precious Formals, Sherri Hill, Tony Bowls, and Jovani. The look is still strong and will be a great cocktail and social occasion look for the following season!
Miss Universe…More Controversy

Well, here we are again talking about controversy in yet another pageant, this time Miss Universe. Trying to be objective about the whole body paint contestants for a photo shoot has been hard. There are many points about in other countries that nudity is not look at like it is in the United States but has anyone thought about the concept of these girls should be role models for younger girls? Who knows what will happen with all the press around this but it is either going to help or hurt the pageant industry and from what it did for the USA pageant seems to only have made it viewed slightly more. So does that mean better rating next year, probably not! Lets just wait to release an opinion after the 23rd.

Dates must be ready also. Don’t let your date be all basic black. Add color with a trendy vest and long tie combo. Have him be even more fashionable by adding the matching pocket square to the mix, you’ll be surprised how that smallest detail will make him totally GQ. Also how said he had to pick the vest that matched, coordinating colors work great together and also show high fashion! Just remember the Dumb and Dumber look was for a movie and should not be replicated in real life, except for that great costume party.

Overstated? No problem! Jewelry for prom or any elegant social occasion should not resemble everyday jewelry. Going over the top is a must! Photo shoot stylist know that more and bigger is better when it comes to making the perfect image and the dress look over the top in elegance and glamour. Match and compliment your accessories. Prom is the perfect time to over state your jewelry. Out-there statement jewelry in bold color and crystal sparkle helps to set you apart. Must have pieces are chunky bracelets (and don’t be afraid to add more than one) and drop and dangle earrings. Gat a dress that a necklace would look great with then make sure you pick a large red carpet looking one that can attract attention no matter where you go that night. Most of all remember bling-bling is good for looking model perfect.

Lets face it makeup is key to being ready for prom. Always start with a great foundation, and now is the time to splurge on this. We love the look and feel of Laura Mercier’s Silk Creme Foundation for the flawless look of a model. Remember don’t play up the eyes and the lips, chose one! We would say go for the eyes. Rich, smoky eyes draw attention and everyone can play up their eyes to an advantage. Don’t forget though lash lengthening mascara or false eyelashes are a must to give drama. We like the neutralized lips with only a hint of color, but please don’t forget the lip gloss to make the statement. Finally, don’t forget to practice the look before prom night and ask for application help at your local makeup counter if you think you need it! Then step one is perfect!
